RALEIGH — Imagine records of your birth, marriage, high school graduation, and other evidence of the events of a lifetime being erased from official agencies by fire or flood. It happens. A one-day for state and local government agencies, archives, libraries, museums, county managers, records managers, and emergency personnel will be held on Wednesday, Novembber 14, at the McKimmon Center in Raleigh.
The State Historical Records Advisory Board and the North Carolina State Archives sponsor the conference. It will focus on the importance of building networks among emergency management agencies and cultural institutions that hold official records, special collections and documentary materials. Hank Holmes, director of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, is the keynote speaker & he will recount experiences with recovery after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources Secretary Lisbeth C. “Libba” Evans and Dr. Jeffrey Crow, Deputy Secretary for Archives and History, will welcome participants. Cultural Resources holds extensive documents in the State Archives, the State Library and in other divisions.
